A BRIGHTER, BUT LESS COLORFUL FUTURE

Count Kraft Heinz as an early adopter of removing synthetic dyes from its products. In April, the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that a national standard and timeline would be established to phase out and eventually eliminate petroleum-based synthetic dyes in food products. This initial phase-out will be followed by the elimination of all chemical dyes, beginning a dramatic shift in the consumer goods industry overall.

For Kraft Heinz, changes will happen in its dessert category, affecting offerings including Jet Puffed, Jell-O, Kool-Aid, and Crystal Light. In addition to replacing artificial colors with natural colors, the company added that no new products will be launched with these food additives.

Big changes create opportunities for flexible companies like Kraft Heinz to gain a competitive advantage and maximize sales while competitors struggle to adapt.
